Mad about Matte October 27, 2009

Look what I found in at the mall:

004 012

Topcoats! I got Sally Hansen Insta Dry and Essie Matte about you, and two glitters. (Three actually, but the third one is for my Elfster girl, so I won’t spoil the surprise 😉 Just this much: it’s pink and silver and totally stunning! ) Swatches and reviews coming soon!

EDIT: OMFG! I’m wearing a mani with Insta Dry since yesterday afternoon and added a coat of Matte about You a few hours ago and my mani starts to flake off in this exact moment! Maybe it’s because I combined the two topcoats? Or maybe it’s the fact that I forgot basecoat, or the crappy but pretty dollar store polish? No idea, but the chip is huge! Looks kinda cool though, like an extravagant french tip:

Here is my first (still undamaged) matte mani: Mermaid blue/green with shimmer. Doesn’t it look totally awesome? I love that it’s not completely wallpaint-matte but still has this somehow velvety look to it. Purty!

Lol, this looks so photoshopped! xD   —  Can you see the shimmer?

See you very soon, right after redoing my nails!

Finding a girls’ paradise… October 21, 2009

… under Kyoto station! It’s called Porta and it’s a HUGE underground shopping mall. They have everything there, from shoes to clothes, accessory and cosmetics and food. Give me enough money and water and I’ll spend the entire next  typhoon season down there 😀

Originally, I only planned to buy an electronic dictionary and case, but of course I couldn’t resist and also got these beauties:

Black lace earrings (these are actually from another shop^^), a super cute owl shaped watch and of course: Nailpolish! I got one Canmake (the baby blue) and three Pas. I didn’t wear any of those as a full mani yet, but boy do I love Pa! The color range is AH-MAY-ZING! They have a ton of gorgeous blues, greens and over-the-top glitters,  exactly what I missed in Germany. Drying time is OK, too, even without topcoat. Canmake seems to be really cool, too, also a nice color range and dries slightly slower than the Pas. I think I’ll get some more of these. Only downside are the names of the polishes. They are numbers :/

Index: Pa A6. Lavender pearl with subtle blue flash. Not as great as the other ones, it’s too sheer for my liking and makes my nails look dirty, and it bubbled. It could be a nice topper, though…

Middle: Pa A32. Forest green creme, almost opaque in three coats.  It’s my second favourite of the bunch, it reminds me of a cool breeze under some trees on a hot summer day. This would probably look great matte, but I don’t have a matte topcoat to show you.

Ring: Awesome gunmetal grey shimmer! Or is it glassflecked? A little foily? No idea. I haven’t seen this kind of finish ever before. It really looks like steel, or a car in a gangster movie. Looove it! And it’s opaque in one coat, you only need two if you absolutely can’t stand the slightest hint of visible nail line.

Pinkie: Canmake 13. Baby blue creme, a bit more vibrant in real life. This one was a tiny bit streaky, but I was good to go after three coats. It makes my skin look a little red, but it’s pretty enough to ignore that.

Aaaand I finally got around trying the stripers from the 100yen store! Review is coming soon!

Bye for now! ❤

Dollar store goodness! (and some random pics^^) October 9, 2009

Good evening!

Today I got my first bunch of japanese polishes!  I got three from a 100 yen shop and one from the drugstore. They had a quite nice color range there, including a TON of nudes (not really for me to wear, but pretty. My mum would totally love them) and the cutest bright glitters and almost-neons ever! Only thing I missed a bit were some dark, vampy shades. Probably I just looked in the wrong places.

Here is what I got:

Midtone blue by Crayon Manicure. It seems to be a jelly, but I didn’t really swatch any of them yet.

Black jelly with gorgeous holo glitter. Maybe a bit like China Glaze Cosmic?

This is the drugstore one. It’s by Noah and it seems to be a charcoal/purple kind of base color packed with tiny pink and purple glitter. Can’t wait to try this one.

More GLITTAH! This is pure green sparkly awesomeness, plus some golden hexagons that look blue in certain lights <3. It’s really sheer, so it makes a great topper. Here it is over my current NOTD, a deep burgundy creme:

And here are some other little things I already love about Japan:

Heavy metal crisps:

Green tea cappucino (does that contradict itself? oO):

Chopsticks that look like a Konad mani (and a nice one, too!):

And of course the fact that you can get a perfectly working, cute little coffee machine for only about 15$!

I think I will try the black holo as my next pedicure, so photos of that are coming soon! Maybe some nail art, too, they have these amazing Stripe Rite-like things at a drugstore near my university…

See you all soon! ❤

Calvin Klein nailpolish review September 20, 2009

I’ve been wanting to post this for some time now… It’s the mini nailpolishes from the coupon haul! Here are some swatches:

Mad Red. This is a bright cherry red jelly with subtle silvery shimmer, perfect fora job interview or something like that. It’s very sheer, it needed 4 coats to look like this. If you like pinks, you can do one coat over a white creme to get a bold hot pink.

Phoenix. It’s a maroon/burgundy kind of color with lots of gold and red shimmer in it. Pretty, but a little boring.

The bottles. You can take the square tops off.
On to the formula… These polishes are nice and thin and dry extremely quickly, but apart from that, the formula just sucks. Sorry for the explicit language, but it’s true. Phoenix is too sheer to be a one-coater, and as soon as you apply more, you get bald spots. I used 4 coats on the swatches to get rid of them, and you can still see some on my index finger. Same with Mad Red, although it’s not that strong of an effect because the color is lighter. The sheerness is the main problem I had with both colors. Seriously, look how tiny the bottles are! How many full manicures am I supposed to get out of each when I need four coats? Like, five or six? That’s not the quality I expect from something with a Calvin Klein label on it. I have drugstore polishes that are better than that.
What experience did you make with this nailpolish? Did I just get bad bottles or is it always like that?
See you soon!

Biotherm Skincare Kit September 8, 2009

Hi guys!
Hope you all enjoyed your weekend! Here comes the review for that skincare set I got. Let’s do this one by one:
This one was a bit too dark for my skintone, so I probably won’t use it. The consistency was really nice though: Not greasy, not too thick and very easy to spread. Maybe I’ll try and use it for frankening. Like… an army green creme maybe, or a muted brick red… What do you think? Have you tried making nailpolish with liquid foundation before? I did once and the result was great, but that was a different type of foundation, more like a cream. Well, we’ll see. Check back for the results! ^^
The name of this foundation is Biotherm Long Wear Detox in 530.

This one is called “Biosource hydra-mineral cleanser toning mousse”. Ugh, what a name. “Best facial cleanser I’ve used so far” would be much less complicated and just as fitting. Seriously, this stuff is great. It makes my skin feel fresh and clean, but not dry at all, it doesn’t hurt when you get it in your eyes, it takes off all my makeup and it also smells really nice. Fresh, soft and clean, something between washed clothes and a cucumber. Love it.

This one is pretty good, too. It’s called “Multi Recharge daily protective energetic moisturizer”. It contains ginseng and vitamine E and it has SPF 15, which is great, especially in summer. It gives a lot of moisture to my skin and draws in quickly without leaving a greasy film on the face. This is special, because a lot of mosturizers can’t do that for me. The smell is really nice, too, very light and fresh and spicy at the same time. It reminds me of a herbal tea with ginger and lemongrass in it. This is my second favourite product of the bunch.

This guy does’t work for me at all. It kind of settles on my skin and keeps the moisturizer from getting in and doing his work. When I rub my face about two hours after I applied it,  it will come off in little greasy flakes, which looks like I haven’t washed my face in weeks. It’s gross. But hey,  just because my face hates it, that does’t mean it can’t be fantastic for your skin type. Looking at the other products, the quality of this toner should be at least decent. So if you want to try it, go ahead and tell me what you think!

Calvin Klein nailpolish review coming up,  you’ll be surprised!

See you soon! ❤

Coupon Haul September 5, 2009

Hi everyone!
My favourite beauty supply store gave away coupons recently, and here is what I got:
Artdeco Volume&Curl mascara
Calvin Klein mini nailpolishes
and a really nice little skincare kit by Biotherm, which included a facewash, toner, moisturizer and a liquid foundation sample.
There were a lot of customers in the store when I got these, so the lady gave me a free perfume sample for having to wait. Sweet, isn’t it? It’s Signature by Otto Kern, and it smells sooo good! I love it!

Stay tuned for the mascara review!
